JAMES W. WANSLEY, Ph.D., CFA is the head of the finance department at the University of Tennessee and holds the departments Clayton Homes Chair of Excellence. He also is the former Director of the universitys Financial Institutions Center. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Tennessee, he served on the finance faculty at Louisiana State University. He teaches at the Graduate school of Banking at LSU and at the Tennessee Bankers Association School of Banking.
Dr. Wansley earned his B.A. from Emory University, his M.B.A. from the University of Georgia, and his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He is the author of more than two dozen publications and research papers that have appeared in journals including the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Management, The Financial Review, Journal of Financial Research, and the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting. His research has focused on the market for corporate control, especially the method of payment used in acquisitions, corporate financial policies, and bank capital issues.
Dr. Wansley serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Financial Research, and the FMAs Survey and Synthesis series. He is currently trustee of the Eastern Finance Association and has served as its President and Vice President. He has served as President, Vice President and member of the executive board of the Southern Finance Association as well as President and Vice President of the Financial Management Association. In 2005, he served as program co-chair for the European meeting of the Financial Management Association in Siena, Italy. He is a member of the board of directors of Vinyl Corners, Inc., BankEast and Risk Management Solutions Inc., and he is affiliated with Financial Analysts Review, Inc. He is the founding President of the Knoxville chapter of Chartered Financial Analysts, and holds the Chartered Financial Analysts designation.
